A special court of Pathankot, on the 10th of June, gave verdict regarding the Kathua rape case and convicted the accused.
All the six accused, who were involved in kidnapping, raping and murdering the 8 year old Asifa, were convicted by the court of Pathankot.
The convicts are Sanji Ram, Anand Dutta, Parvesh Kumar, Deepak Khajuria, Surender Verma and Tilak Raj.
After the end of the trial, on the 3rd of June, Tejwinder Singh, the District and Sessions Judge of Jammu and Kashmir, announced, the verdict will be declared on the 10th of June.
Although the special court convicted the guilty in the case, Vishal Jangotra, the 7th accused in the case was acquitted.
On the 10th of January 2018, Asifa was kidnapped from her village and brutally gang raped for days by a group, which included a teenager, police officers and a temple priest. On the 17th of January, the girl’s body was found in a forest.
Mubeen Farooqui, the advocate of the victim’s family, said, three out of the 6 were convicted under Section 302 (Murder) and 376 D (Gang rape) of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC.) The other 3 convicts were charged under Section 201 (Destruction of evidence) of the RPC.
